To celebrate Classified School Employees Week, we’re giving a Super School Shoutout to Maintenance and Operations, with building mechanic Tony Steltjes, and Information and Technology Services, with the Help Desk team, Steve Hornyak and Colton Berge.

Tony joined CPSD three years ago and never looked back because of his stellar coworkers and improved work-life balance. “I was working 10-hour shifts six days a week before, and I am so much happier here knowing I have a team I can rely on and enjoy working with,” he said.

Tony goes to all the schools and facilities in the district to repair any structural issues that arise. “I am the kind of guy that will try to help with any and everything,” he said. “Plus, our team collectively has more than 200 years of experience, so I know I can reach out to someone else if I need help.”

After joining the district as a classified worker, Tony highly respects those who work behind the scenes. “You need a lot of knowledge and experience to do these jobs,” he said. “I kind of see us as the street sweepers or snowplows that clear obstacle for success in the classroom.”

Colton and Steve began working at the Help Desk in 2021 and 2023 and enjoy their role as a vital resource for all CPSD employees. “We answer the phones whenever someone has an issue, repair and remediate laptops and try our best to give immediate assistance,” Colton said.

Colton and Steve have a passion for tech and are a dynamic duo. “I always want to help educators and learn more,” Steve said. “Colton and I balance each other out because I can have a narrow focus and he thinks more broadly, so we rely on each other to problem solve.”

Being classified staff members is a point of pride for Colton and Steve. “We’re here to support everyone’s daily endeavors and make things easier,” Colton said. “We hope we’re successful so that all educators and other staff succeed in giving students a great education.”
