Due to the excessive, record-setting temperatures in our region, all Summer Enrichment and Credit Retrieval programs are canceled Monday, June 28. This also includes extracurricular school activities and athletics. The district will continue to operate on regular schedule.

Our Free Summer Meals Program will continue to operate from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at local school and community locations listed below:

  • Aladdin Camelot/Jim’s Deli
  • Alta Apartments
  • Carter Lake
  • Four Heroes
  • Lakeview 
  • Custer
  • Evergreen 
  • New Testament Church
  • Springbrook Park 
  • Tillicum  
  • Thomas Middle School
  • Clover Park High School
  • Lakes High School

Air-Conditioned Facilities

  • Pierce County is hosting cooling centers across the area.  
  • Air-conditioned facilities are available on JBLM. Locations and updates will be posted to the JBLM and JBLM MMR Facebook pages. 

Check out these tips to help you cool off for the next few days! 

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Find an air-conditioned space
  • Apply cold towels and cloths on your cooling points (e.g., head, neck, wrist)
  • Plan for extra rest times
  • Avoid using your stove or dishwasher
  • Blackout curtains can reduce your home's temperature up to 24%
  • Eat fresh fruits and veggies
  • Turn off your electronic device if it's not in use
  • If you have a ceiling fan, make sure it's going in a counterclockwise direction
  • Wear loose-fitted and light-colored clothing, preferably cotton
  • Do not leave children in a car or another motor-closed vehicle
